NYU Freedge was created as a part of reducing food waste among students and increasing affordability at New York University. The project was later merged with the freedge initiative, spread globally.

This community sharing refrigerator prototype is the world’s first smart sharing fridge. In 2017, it was gifted to ShareMeals to help them reach out to a wider audience. In 2019, the project was restarted at NYU Makerspace.
